Meet the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter

Loving Animals & Finding Furever Homes

The team at the Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter may be running with just a few people, but they are not short on love for our furry friends! Also known as MOAS, the shelter was established in 2002 to meet the growing need to serve unwanted dogs and stray cats in the area.

Their mission is simple: save as many pets as possible. And they do just that, finding loving homes for hundreds of dogs and cats each year.

MOAS also offers low-cost spay and neutering services to help control the pet population and make these medical procedures more affordable for local pet owners.

Even with a dedicated staff, they need your help. MOAS is looking for people who love animals and would be willing to donate time or financial support to help them serve the pet population of Madison and Oglethorpe counties and beyond. And they make getting involved really easy.

Here are FIVE easy ways you can help MOAS care for dogs and cats:

  1. Buy an item off of their Amazon wishlist or Chewy wishlist. You can check them out at moaspets.com/donate. Their wishlists are linked at the bottom of the page.

  2. Spend a morning or afternoon helping with a variety of tasks around the animal shelter (plus, you get to play with dogs and cats!). MOAS is always in need of volunteers, and your time makes a huge difference!

  3. Become a MOAS member. For as little as $5/month, you become a MOAS Member and support local pets.

  4. Buy their t-shirts, hats, cups, and other great items for sale on their website (they make great gifts!). Shop online today.

  5. Participate in Stanfield’s pet food drive for MOAS! Donate a bag of pet food, and we’ll give you $10 off a future service, AND we’ll match your pet food donation. We can pick the pet food up if we’re at your home for maintenance or repairs, or you can drop it by our office on Mitchell Bridge Rd. in Athens.
